Senior Data Analyst (Recycling)

Location: Orlando, FL

Position: The Senior Data Analyst is responsible for conceptualizing and leading the development of spreadsheets and internal and online databases, conducting quantitative analyses, and leading the creation of work products for both internal staff and external clients. They will work collaboratively with company Principals and project managers to create tactical and strategic tools for use by employees, and to provide customized analysis for clients who are seeking to increase diversion of waste to landfill, optimize their recycling programs, and expand into new markets for various services.
Travel: Occasional travel is possible. All travel expenses to be reimbursed.

Competencies:
Analytical/Critical/Logical Thinker – Applies conceptual and analytical thinking or techniques to resolve problems and issues by breaking them down into logical parts and analyzing against similar issues, experiences, assumptions, frameworks, or perspectives, to make disciplined decisions. Minimum Qualifications:

  • Four-year degree in an environmental science, biology, economics, business administration, engineering, statistics, or related field.
  • Five or more years of professional experience in engineering, environmental, financial, waste/recycling, or related industry; or master's degree and two or more years of related professional experience.
  • Expertise conceptualizing, designing, populating, and analyzing Microsoft Excel spreadsheets for customized technical and data analysis and for internal use by small user groups. Must be comfortable using look-up, string manipulation, and conditional logic functions; using pivot tables; and creating high-quality, professional charts and graphs.
  • Basic understanding of simple statistics, including calculating and explaining the meaning of margins of error/confidence intervals.
  • Fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

 

Additional Desired Qualifications(not required to apply):

  • Familiarity with any of the following areas of expertise: solid waste, recycling, or organics management; transportation systems and logistics; local government purchasing and procurement; project management.
  • Use of online database and web design tools to create small database applications in the cloud.
  • Academic or professional experience with geographic information systems (GIS) and/or Google maps.
  • Knowledge of database design and experience writing queries for a mySQL database.
  • Ability to use Python for data analysis and identify when it is more efficient to do so (compared to Excel).
  • Ability to create macros in Excel using VBA.
  • Experience using Survey Monkey.
  • Comfortable using Adobe Acrobat to manipulate PDF files.
  • Willing to travel and assist with in-field projects.
  • Experience in consulting. Comfortable communicating with clients, developing proposals, budgeting time, and managing projects.
  • Experience conducting market analysis through a combination of third-party market data analysis supplemented by direct research and/or surveying.
  • Professional experience and/or advanced degree in statistics (subject to mutually agreeable compensation level).
